Notes from the Kindergarten Team
Wow! This first full week of school just flew by! You know the saying, "time flies..." and we sure are having fun. On that note, we'd like to explain our idea of "having fun." We want school to be a positive experience for your child. The biggest compliment you can give us is to say that your child enjoys coming to school. We know that we do so much more than fun and games. We have very high expectations, and we work hard all day; yet, if we can make our activities exciting and meaningful, children begin to see that learning can indeed be enjoyable. If your child is ever feeling unhappy, and school is becoming an unpleasant place, please tell us right away. No doubt the work can be demanding at times, but we strive to ensure all children are successful. We need to keep communicating so your child feels safe and positive about school. Keep us posted!
Much of our beginning letter learning in Kindergarten is centered on our names. This week we discussed how to properly hold the pencil and how to print our names properly on dotted lines. We are learning to recognize the differences between the upper and lower case letters. For many, this is the first time they've used the kindergarten lined paper, so they are not yet using the lines properly. No worries! This will come in time...with a lot of practice and praise.
The kiddos were very excited and eager to begin participating in our routines and learn the rules. It's so much to remember! Each day will get a bit easier. It would be helpful if you would talk to your child and reinforce why the rules and routines are so important.

If you have a change in pickup plans for your child after 11:30 a.m., please contact me, because the children will all be in my room from 11:30 until 3:12 each day. Cathy is teaching Optional Kindergarten in the afternoon, and she may not get the information. The first weeks of school can be difficult transition times for some children, and if I'm aware of changes in transportation plans, it can ease some of the littles ones fears. If you need to reach me during the school day, the best way to contact me is to call the office and they will put your call directly through to my voicemail. Thanks for your patience!
