MRS. DREY 7-8th Grade Religion

8th grade is zeroing in on the sacrament of Confirmation.  We've begun a study of the Apostles' Creed - what exactly do we believe as Catholic Christians?  Many are hard at work collecting service hours and some have even completed their 20 hours of service (don't stop - keep serving others!).  They have begun researching saints to choose for their Confirmation names.  Choosing saints with similar interests - role models for the students.  Before celebrating the sacraments we will also study Church history, prayer and Catholic Social teaching.

7th grade is immersed in the study of Jesus in the New Testament.  We are looking at Jesus' revolutionary teaching, his personality and how people were drawn to him.  We are reading scripture passages of his miracles, parables, words and teachings.

Mr. Hunter-6th Grade

2010-11

Dear 6th Grade Parents:

 Welcome !

My name is Pete Hunter and I will your child’s Religion teacher this year! This is my 8th year teaching 6th grade religion.  Every year brings new opportunities and challenges!

I will be using a new text from Loyal Press series called “Christ Our Life” and being new, the students are not allowed to write in them.   The text will cover many of the facets of our faith that are very important for students at this age.   Each chapter is Scripture based and covers most of the diocesan standards and benchmarks.

These chapters will vary in length and difficulty, and vary in time to cover the material.  Most chapters will  take 3-4 days to complete. At the end of each chapter we will use review worksheets and cooperative groups to summarize learning and prepare for tests. Also, discussion and expressions of thoughts are very important tools for this class.

Grading will be based on quizzes, tests and homework.   Homework will be given at least 1-2 times per week and should not take more than ½ hour per night.   Grades will be based on a point system (although some work will be weighted more so than others) and students/parents will be able to view reports weekly via Edline. I will be giving 6th grade students and parents Edline Accounts. Information on how to set up your account will be sent home with your child.

I am looking forward to a great year with your child(ren). If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to call me here at school or you can reach me by email: phunter@dowling.pvt.k12.ia.us

            Sincerely,

            Pete Hunter
