I’m very proud and excited to start our new school year being a “US Healthier School Challenge” Silver Award Winner! I hope you read First Lady Michelle Obama’s letter congratulating us on a job well done with the lunch program and the physical activities we include in our daily routine. As Michelle Obama said in her letter, “we are one of the best of the best”! I just want to thank all of our St. Agustin families for supporting our programs. On that note our theme this year is “Eat what God put on the Earth”. With this in mind I will buy farm to school fruits and vegetables while they are in season. I will demonstrate how tasteful fruits and vegetables can be prepared so even the littlest of children will love to eat them. They will be so excited they will be able to make the tasteful dish for your family. As part of the healthier challenge, the state and federal governments have asked school lunch programs to have water available during lunch time. More information can be found at: www.waterinschools.org
We also will use plastic bottle’s to serve our milk as we don’t use straws and the lid makes them easier to open and will provide less spillage. It’s been proven that 20% more milk consumption happens when children drink from using these bottles.
Just want to remind any parents who have children with food allergies to contact the food service director Pam Moore and give her the information before we start the first day of school. 279-4042 ext.4
I need to remind the parents since we are a state funded program there is “NO” food from outside venders to be bought in to the cafeteria for your child for any reason.
Due to the high cost of eating more healthy choices we have to raise our lunch prices 10 cents now the cost will be $2.60 for children and $3.35 for all Adults. The milk will remain $.55 and one comes with a lunch. I encourage all parents to come in and share some time with their children and have lunch. Just give the cafeteria a call by 9:00 am to make sure we have prepared enough for you.
Have a Great Year! The Cooks at St. Augustin
