Celebrating National School Library Month
April 4, 2018
Making Connections At Your School Library
April is National School Library Month, and we're celebrating throughout the month with many fun activities! This year's theme is Making Connections At Your School Library. St. Augustin school librarian, Mrs. Therese Drey, will be connecting with students, families, and staff each week and exhibiting how our school library program plays an essential role in transforming learning.
The mission of the St. Augustin Catholic School Library/Media Center is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information; students are empowered to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers and ethical users of information.
April 3rd - 6th: School Library Month
Students kicked off School Library Month by helping create a bulletin board display on, "Why I love my school library..." and will receive a small gift from the library on Friday.
April 9th - 13th: National Library Week
National Library Week will be observed April 8-14, 2018 with the theme, "Libraries Lead." Students will participate in grade block contests such as design a bookmark or book spine poetry. April 12th celebrates “Take Action for Libraries” Day as well as D.E.A.R. – Drop Everything And Read Day.
April 16th - 20th: Books On Parade
Learn how you can make a birthday or memorial book donation to the school library. We invite students to bring their Grandparent(s) or special person to the library on April 20th while visiting for Mrs. Moore's Grandparents Day Luncheon. Students participating in the Battle of the Books program will compete at the school level to determine what teams will represent St. Augustin in the Diocese of Des Moines Battle of the Books Competition.
April 23 - 27 - Genre featured: Poetry
In celebration of National Poetry Month, also celebrated in April, we will feature works of poetry and celebrate National Poem in Your Pocket Day on April 26th. Students will give their best guess on "How many books are in the library?"
We're looking forward to an exciting month with many more surprises to come!
