Meet Flynn, Registered Therapy Dog
September 11, 2019
Welcome Team Flynn
Ms. Kautzky’s dog, Flynn, will be joining the faculty/staff at St. Augustin Catholic School. He successfully completed the Therapy Animal Program through the Iowa Human Animal Bond Society, which is a member of Animal Assisted Intervention International. The program required Flynn to complete each of the following components: an orientation and five therapy dog classes, a veterinarian wellness exam, a 14 part control evaluation, and seven hours of supervised visits. Flynn also received approval from the Superintendent of Schools, Ms. Donna Bishop, the St. Augustin Catholic School Board of Education, and Father Pisut.
A few important notes:
- Ms. K and Flynn will work with students primarily in an individual or small group setting, though they may make occasional visits during teacher’s morning meetings or AR time.
- Ms. K and Flynn are a team – meaning when they are working with students, they will be together. No student will be unattended with Flynn.
- Flynn will be leashed – unless gated in Ms. Kautzky’s office.
- While no dog is 100% hypoallergenic, Flynn is a Goldendoodle and has a non-shedding coat. It will be properly maintained throughout the school year.
Be sure to stop by and meet him soon!
