Meet Mrs. Paul

I teach band for 5th-8th grade at St. Augustin Catholic School as well as Christ the King School. I grew up in the Des Moines area, and attended Sacred Heart School in West Des Moines and Graduated from Dowling Catholic High School in 1993. I went to the University of Iowa for college. I was the band director at St. Augustin from 1999-2006. I have been teaching private lessons at Riemans for the past 9 years (brass, piano, and voice).

What I enjoy most about teaching: I enjoy teaching children the joy in making music and hope that they keep music in their lives forever.

About my family: I met my husband, Jason Paul, in the Hawkeye Marching Band, and celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary.  We have 3 very musical children.  Our twins, Emily and Ryan, along with their younger sister Katie, attend Southeast Polk High School and love spending time in band and show choir.  They all play piano and never wanted their mom as their private lesson teacher (ha ha!).

In my free time I enjoy: I pose as "Debbie Doo Wop" and perform for children with my musical partner, "Dynamite Dan." They perform across Iowa at libraries, schools, and festivals including:  The Des Moines Arts Festival, Every Family Rocks, Johnston Kite Festival, Blank Park Zoo, Des Moines Farmers Market and many local Catholic Schools.  We have written and produced 2 children's albums and submitted our 2nd album "Party" for Grammy consideration for Best Children's Album.  I was invited to the 2016 Grammy Awards and brought my oldest daughter!
