Meet Miss Cataldo

This will be my first year of teaching, and I am incredibly excited to join the St. Augustin Catholic School community.  This past May I graduated from Drake University with a degree in elementary education and endorsements in reading and talented and gifted. Go Bulldogs!

I grew up in Des Moines, attended school in the Diocese of Des Moines all the way from Pre-K to 12th grade, and graduated from Dowling Catholic High School in 2015.

About my family: I am part of a family of four. My parents instilled a love of learning and reading within me at a very young age as they both have backgrounds in education. I have one sibling, Cate, who will be an 8th grader at St. Augustin! I also have a silly and loveable Shih Tzu, Bentley and a sweet Maltipoo, Charlie. My boyfriend of five years, Ross, attends law school at Drake University. One of the activities we love doing together as a family is traveling to Disney World every year!

What I enjoy most about teaching: What I love most about teaching kiddos at this age is their boundless creativity, love of learning, and curiosity for the world around them!

What I enjoy doing outside of school: I love traveling, spending time with my family and dogs, reading, going to movies, trying out new recipes, and running.

A sweet story about teaching: When I was student teaching in a 2nd grade classroom, at the end of every school day I would find an anonymous sticky note containing words of encouragement on my desk. Eventually, I found out who was leaving me these adorably kind notes. When this student was having a particularly rough day I decided to write her a note filled with encouragement and kindness, which was able to cheer her up! Encouraging notes became something I adapted into my own classroom from this point on as I noticed how they could make an impact in helping students achieve a more positive mindset! These sweet moments taught me that one act of kindness, no matter how small can truly make a difference in a student's day.
