Report Cards and Grading
Report cards are issued three times throughout the school year for all students. St. Augustin operates on a trimester school schedule, and report cards are issued online at the end of each trimester.
Elementary Grades
For students in kindergarten through 5th grade, St. Augustin uses the official Diocesan report card which evaluates students purely on the basis of the individual student’s ability in achieving the grade-level Diocesan Standards and Benchmarks rather than the relationship of the academic ability of other students in the same grade level. This grading system is detailed in the St. Augustin Handbook. The marking code for the report card in kindergarten through fifth grade is:
4= Meets grade-level expectation with excellence
3= Meets grade-level expectation
2= Progressing toward grade-level expectation
1= Attempts; not meeting grade-level expectation
ID= Insufficient Data
N= Not assessed
Middle School Grades
Students in grades 6-8 are graded using the Diocesan Standards and Benchmarks. Middle school students are grade with letter grades, which translate into a grade point average.
The weighting system
The Middle School grade point average is figured using weighting of classes and points assigned for each grade achieved. The total number of points earned is divided by the total weight of all classes. Note: Seventh grade has two English classes, so total number is 7. Sixth and eighth grades have a total weight of 6.
