Meet Miss Van Vors
This will be my eighth year teaching in Catholic Schools and my second year teaching fifth grade at St. Augustin. I could not be more excited for the opportunity to teach at such an exceptional school. Prior to St. Augustin, I taught for six years at Sacred Heart in Boone, Iowa teaching first, third, and fifth grades. The thing I enjoy most about teaching is developing relationships with my students.
I grew up in Urbandale, attended St. Pius, and graduated from Dowling Catholic High School. I attended Briar Cliff University in Sioux City and received a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education with a reading endorsement.
What I enjoy doing outside of school: I love spending time with my three dogs, Finley, Auggie, and Piper, being with my family, visiting friends, and going to Iowa City to watch some Hawkeyes football and basketball.
A sweet story about a teaching: During my first year of teaching, we were creating the Nativity scene. The day we made the angels I was dismissing my class and I noticed one of my first graders in the back. He was buzzing his lips and flying his angel around. I asked him what he was doing, and this student responded, "Miss Van Vors, my angel is flying to Heaven, he's so happy to be with Jesus. It was a reminder of a the simply perfect world at is a child imagination.
