Meet Mrs. Carver

This is my 32nd year of teaching elementary school. This is my fourth year at St. Augustin. My first year at St. Augustin was in 2000. I had Mrs. Spike’s husband, Nicholas, in my 5th grade Language Arts class! Time flies!
I am from Nebraska and graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. I have taught a variety of grade levels and small groups. I am looking forward to teaching first grade!

What I like most about teaching: I love the relationships that I build with kids. It is so much fun to get to know them and watch them grow. My favorite thing to teach is writing. I want all kids to develop a love of writing and realize anyone can be a good writer with a little practice. It’s fun to watch kids solve things they didn’t think possible and learn from things that don’t go so well. I like to have fun while I teach and enjoy a good sense of humor.

About my family: My kids and I are members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and we live in West Des Moines. Elise is going to be a senior at Iowa State in the fall. She is majoring in accounting and minoring in finance. She did an internship with Anderson Tax this summer and has accepted a position with them after she graduates in May.  Jack is going to be a freshman at Iowa State. He is big into swimming and has started to participate in water polo. He is majoring in chemical engineering. We enjoy doing things together as a family and are Cyclone and Cornhusker fans. It will be an adjustment for me to have both of them in college. I will be looking forward to their visits home and am glad they are close by.

Outside of school I enjoy: I like to spend as much time as I can with my kids. We try to get back to Nebraska to see my parents and sister and her family as much as we can. I love to exercise, clean, read, and participate in and watch sports. I also like to bake cookies of all kinds and make scotcharoos!
