Meet Mrs. Carver

This is my 30th of teaching elementary school. This is my third year at St. Augustin. My first year at St. Augustin was in 2000. I had Mrs. Spike’s husband, Nicholas, in my 5th grade Language Arts class! Time flies!

I am from Nebraska and graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. I have taught a variety of grade levels and small groups. I am looking forward to teaching first grade!

What I like most about teaching: I love the relationships that I build with kids. It is so much fun to get to know them and watch them grow. My favorite thing to teach is writing. I want all kids to develop a love of writing and realize anyone can be a good writer with a little practice. It’s fun to watch kids solve things they didn’t think possible and learn from things that don’t go so well. I like to have fun while I teach and enjoy a good sense of humor.

About my family: My kids and I are members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and we live in West Des Moines. Elise is going to be a sophomore at Iowa State in the fall. She is majoring in business. You may have seen her working at Target this summer! Jack is going to be a junior at Valley High School. He is big into swimming and also participates in track. This year he is taking on the role of being student manager for the Valley girls’ swim team.We enjoy game nights and road trips together!

Outside of school I enjoy: I like to spend as much time as I can with my kids. We try to get back to Nebraska to see my parents and sister and her family as much as we can. I love to exercise, clean, and read. I cheer for the Cornhuskers and the Cyclones and love NFL football. I also like to bake cookies of all kinds and scotcheroos!
