Meet Ms. Caligiuri
This is my eighth year teaching and my seventh year at St. Augustin. I teach 6th grade reading and language arts. I grew up in Des Moines, and I attended St. Augustin for elementary and grade school, so it seems only right that I came back to teach! I graduated from Dowling Catholic before attending Bradley University for my Bachelor of Arts. While there, I competed on the Bradley Speech Team, which is the most successful collegiate team in the country. Recently, I received my Masters Degree in Literacy Education from Drake University.
What I enjoy most about teaching: My favorite thing about teaching is having fun with my students. I don't see a reason for reading, writing, and grammar to be "boring", and when I'm teaching, I do my best to keep things entertaining!
A funny story: I'm a HUGE grammar nerd; when I was in 6th grade at St. Augustin, I told my teacher that I diagrammed sentences in sidewalk chalk on my driveway. She told me I should probably keep that to myself! I also still have my grammar notebook from middle school. I've learned that it's ok to be silly and a little crazy when it comes to teaching grammar. Often times, that's what makes students remember things the most!
