Meet Mrs. Simmons
I have been teaching on and off for over 30 years. I’ve taught 5th grade, 6th grade, kindergarten, and I've spent the past 8 years teaching Pre-K/TK. This is my second year as a teacher at St. Augustin school but I am definitely not a stranger to this community! I attended St. Augustin and graduated quite a while ago... when big hair was hip and before the World Wide Web and text messaging were invented! I went to Dowling High School and received my teaching degree from The College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota.
What I enjoy most about teaching: There is never a dull moment in TK. We are busy from the moment we step in the door until we leave at the end of the day. These kids are filled with ideas, movement, energy, enthusiasm, and a love of life and it... is... CONTAGIOUS!!! I get to celebrate successes, encourage students to charge forward, lend a listening ear to frustrations, and help these little learners figure out life, learning, and friends. And, quite honestly, they do just as much for me!
About my family: I have been married to my husband Chuck for 29 years. We have 3 grown children, their families, and a grandchild all living close by.
What I like to do when I am not at school: I like gardening (but not weeding), reading, hanging out with my family, and watching the Packers win. I love musicals and can belt out Mamma Mia with the best of them but can't carry a tune to save my life. My house is filled with all my crazy DIY projects (much to my husband's dismay). I'm not afraid to paint anything! We spend a lot of time with our parents, kids and grandchild that all live in the Des Moines area.
