Meet Mrs. Sgroi
This will be my third year teaching in Catholic Schools and my first year at St. Augustin Catholic School. Prior to St. Augustin, I taught Religion and Agriculture at St. Mary's in Storm Lake, Iowa. I am thrilled to be joining such a welcoming school community! I look forward to teaching middle school religion and visiting each elementary class weekly for religious activities.
I grew up in Hereford, Maryland, which is located on the northeast side of the state. I made my way west to attend college at Iowa State University. Go Cyclones!
What I enjoy most about teaching: The thing I most enjoy about teaching is getting to know students and growing in faith together!
About my family: My mom still lives in Maryland but loves visiting Iowa. I also have a twin brother and a sister. I am recently married to my husband, Michael. We live in Ames with our two-year-old corgi named Zoey.
What I enjoy outside of school: Outside of school, I enjoy reading, going on walks, meeting up with friends and being outside!
A teaching story: When I was teaching in Storm Lake, my students would give me 'pets' to keep on my desk. By the end of the year, my 'pets' included; a mound of soil with googly eyes named Doug, a potato, two rocks, a clay statue of an avocado, a paper swan, and a Groot statue. This taught me that classrooms should always be personalized, and you can never have too many class pets!
